PRE-APPROVED CONCERTS
What is a pre-approved concert?
An Instrumental and choral concerts that are college-level and above are acceptable. Check with your teacher if you are unsure if a "non-pre-approved" concert satisfies the concert review assignment for your class.
Examples of Unapproved Concerts: Any concerts in the park, any cruise line performance, any Elementary/Junior High/High School concerts or productions, any junior or youth theater productions, open mic nights, cafe or restaurant performances, street performers, informal music festivals, or congregational music.
In no way are we discouraging our students from supporting the arts. We should all attend these types of performances because they are important to us and make for a better society. However, there is a certain standard of performance that we are teaching our students at BASIS and we want them to see this modeled by professionals in the field.
What is considered "proof" that my student attended a concert?
Proof can be a ticket stub, a program, or photographic evidence clearly showing that your student attended the concert on their form. Proof of concert attendances is a requirement and must be submitted with the concert review form. Concert tickets and photos can be sent to your students music teacher via e-mail, but please include that information on the Concert Review form.
Are there any free concerts?
You bet there are! We are so fortunate to live in a city with a thriving fine arts community. There are hundreds of local concerts that take place at churches or other venues around town. Last year, Phoenix Opera donated 100 free tickets to our BASIS Mesa families. Also, the ASU School of Music produces 800 concerts during the year and many of those concerts are free of charge (look for Bachelors, Masters and Doctoral degree recitals). If you are not sure about the concert check with your teacher.
